“Diary of a Country Prosecutor” is a novel by Tawfiq al-Hakim, first published in 1937. It was translated and published in French in 1939 (first edition), again in 1942 (second edition), and later in 1974 and 1978 (third, fourth, and fifth editions by Éditions Plon in Paris).

In this novel, al-Hakim recounts scenes drawn from incidents and cases he encountered while working in the judiciary in a rural region of Egypt. The story centers on the struggles of a prosecutor sent from Cairo to the countryside, depicting how he spends his time battling mosquitoes and flies while clashing with the district officer and the court clerk.
